How to get involved
Special Olympics is always looking for volunteers. Volunteering makes a big difference
and impacts those
around us. You can subscribe to our page to get emails on when certain
events are happening within your area.
What Volunteers Do
Volunteers are the foundation of Special Olympics
Illinois. We depend on thousands
of volunteers to help coach, conduct competitions and fundraising events,
and serve
on committees.
Coaches
Coaches help play a major part in Special Olympics. In order to be a coach, you have
to take some
basic education courses. The courses consist of General Orientation, Sport
Specific Skills Course, Principles of Coaching,
Unified Sports, Online Trainings, and
Clinics or courses offered by a National Governing Body (NGB) count towards renewal.
The NGB Course Verification Form must be submitted to your Regional Training Manager
to receive credit.
